Major League Soccer Signs Julian Gressel to Senior Contract

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Julian Gressel has signed with the MLS (Major League Soccer) ahead of the MLS SuperDraft, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 13. Gressel was among four college seniors who signed with the MLS.

On Dec. 15, it was announced by the MLS that Gressel is one of 53 NCAA Division I college players selected to the list and participate in the 2017 adidas MLS Combine in Los Angeles, Calif. from Jan. 8 – 12. Gressel is among seven MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist to have been selected to the combine.

Gressel finished the 2016 season with 36 points on 15 goals and six assists. Five of his 15 goals came as game-winning tallies, including the lone goal in the Friars' 1-0 victory over St. John's on Nov. 3 to claim the BIG EAST Regular Season title.

The senior collected nine points in NCAA Tournament play, including scoring two goals in the Friars' 5-4 comeback win over No. 1-seed Maryland on Nov. 20.

He finished his career ranked second all-time at Providence in career goals (30), career assists (26), and career points (86).

Gressel was one of 15 players to be named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, the BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year, and a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team Selection. He is the fifth Friar to earn All-America recognition, being named a First Team All-American.
