Julian Gressel Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Providence College senior midfielder Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer as announced by the league on Aug. 29.

In the Friars' opening weekend, Gressel scored both goals in two narrow losses. On Aug. 26, the Friars fell to intra-state rival Rhode Island in double overtime, 2-1. Gressel notched the game-tying goal in the 29th minute.

Providence was defeated by No. 3/6 Clemson on Aug. 28, 2-1. Gressel cut the Tiger's lead after taking a shot from midfield in the 80th minute that soared past the Clemson goalkeeper.

The Friars are back in action on Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium against Holy Cross.
