Men's Soccer Announces 2016 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's soccer Head Coach Craig Stewart announced the program's 2016 season schedule today (July 6). The Friars will play 10 home games at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium and seven road games. The 2016 campaign marks the program's first season in its new state-of-the-art soccer stadium.
The Friars' schedule also features four opponents who made the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
Providence will kick off the 2016 season hosting intra-state rival, Rhode Island, at 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 26 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
The Friars continue non-conference play with two home games against Boston University and Holy Cross on Aug. 28 and Sept. 2, respectively. BU, who competes in the Patriot League, competed in the NCAA tournament.
In their first road match of the season, the Friars travel to Smithfield, R.I. to face Bryant on Sept. 4 at 3:00 p.m.
In the Rhode Island Capital City Classic, the Friars will host SMU at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 9 and Georgia State at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 11.
Providence opens BIG EAST play with a home match against reigning BIG EAST Champions and 2015 NCAA Tournament participant Georgetown, at 7:00 p.m. at Anderson Stadium. The Friars continue BIG EAST play with a match at Butler at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 28.
The Friars return home on Sept. 28 for a non-conference match-up against UConn, who earned an invitation to the NCAA tournament a year ago.
Providence hosts BIG EAST opponent, Xavier, at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 1 before traveling to cross-city rival, Brown, on Oct. 5.
The team resumes BIG EAST play with a home match against Villanova on Oct. 8. The Friars will play back-to-back road games at Seton Hall on Oct. 15 and at DePaul on Oct. 22.
Providence's final regular season home game will be played on Oct. 26 against Marquette.
The Friars will finish the regular season with two BIG EAST road games, at Creighton on Oct. 29 and at St. Johns on Nov. 3. Creighton participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
The BIG EAST Tournament will begin on Nov. 6 with the quarterfinals, hosted by the highest seeded team in each match-up. The BIG EAST Semifinals will be played on Nov. 10 and the final on Nov. 13. The semifinal games and final also will be played at the highest seeded team's home venue.
