Field Hockey Prepares For Cross-City Rival Brown University

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team will make the short drive to the East side to face non-conference foe Brown on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The game will be played at Goldberger Family Field on Brown's campus at 4:00 p.m. The Bears are 6-5 overall, including a 5-2 mark at home on Goldberger Family Field. Providence College enters the match with an 11-3 overall record and have won eight of its last nine games, including each of the last three matches.

SCOUTING BROWN (6-5):
The Brown field hockey team enters Tuesday's match with a 6-5 overall record, and is in the midst of a three-game winless streak. Brown fell to No. 11-ranked Princeton, 5-1, in its most recent game on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Princeton, N.J. The Bears have amassed a 5-2 record at home on Goldberger Family Field. Brown and Providence have played four common opponents, including Rider, Sacred Heart, Bryant and Quinnipiac. Brown is 3-1 vs. those teams, while the Friars have a 4-0 mark. Brown's only loss among those common opponents is Quinnipiac (2-0).

Lucy Green leads the Bears with nine points on four goals and one assist, while Ellie Seid and Jaclyn Torres are tied for second on the team in scoring with eight points each. Seid has tallied three goals and two assists, and Torres owns four goals.

Katie Hammaker has played 779 minutes in goal for Brown and owns a 1.98 goals against average and a 0.747 save percentage. She has faced a total of 134 shots, including 89 on goal, and has recorded 65 saves and allowed 22 goals.


SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (11-3): The Providence College field hockey team enters Tuesday's match vs. Brown with an 11-3 overall record and have won eight of its last nine games, including each of the last three. Each of Providence's last three games were decided by one goal, including two overtime victories vs. Quinnipiac (2-1) and Georgetown (3-2). Overall, Providence has posted a 3-1 mark this season in overtime games and is 3-0 in overtime games vs. BIG EAST Conference opponents.

Senior Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) leads the Friars in scoring with 20 points on nine goals and two assists. Freshman Sylvia Miller (Severn, Md.) and junior Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) are tied for second in scoring with 13 points each. Miller has tallied six goals and one assist, while Hamilton has collected five goals and three assists. Miller has scored a goal in four of the Friars' last five games, including each of the last three matches.

Hamilton, junior Abby Thornton (West Pittston, Pa.), senior Emily Humiston (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) share the team lead in assists, with three each.

Junior Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) has played 1,011 minutes in the cage for Providence this season. She enters Tuesday's match with a 1.52 goals against average and a 0.722 save percentage. Guilbert owns two shut-out victories on the year and has held seven other opponents to just one goal.

In the Friars' most recent game against Georgetown on Oct. 14, Providence came away with a 3-2 overtime victory. PC trailed 2-1 late in the match until freshman Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) scored the equalizer with just 2:56 remaining on the clock. Michals' goal forced overtime, where fellow freshman Miller tallied the game-winning goal just 1:51 into extra time. Another freshman, Floor Rozemeijer (Santpoort-Zuid, Holland), was responsible for the Friars' first goal of the game.


WHAT'S NEXT:
The Friars resume BIG EAST Conference play on Friday, Oct. 21 against Liberty. The game will be played on Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Providence will host Boston College on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Lennon Field in a match that is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The match will serve as the back drop for the program's annual senior day and also will serve as its annual Pinkout Friartown Game, which helps to raise funds for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game. The Providence College Athletics Department also will be selling long-sleeve Pinkout Friartown T-Shirts at the game for $20.
