Men's Soccer Defeats Northeastern, 2-1

BROOKLINE, Mass. -

The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Northeastern, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 19 in Brookline, Mass. The Friars improved to 4-2-1, while the Huskies moved to 0-3-2 on the season.

The Friars opened up the game with a goal from junior Mac Steeves (Needham, Mass.) in the 38th minute. Steeves' goal marked his seventh goal of the season and the assists were credited to junior Dominik Machado (Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman Brendan Constantine (Glastonbury, Conn.). The Friars concluded the first half with a 1-0 lead, as well as the advantage in shots (4-2).

In the 79th minute the Friars found the back of the net again to make the game, 2-0. Machado scored his first goal of the season from 25 yards out from center field into the top left corner of the goal.

With 10 seconds left in the game, Northeastern managed to get on the scoreboard for the final score, 2-1. Khesanio Hall scored a one touch shot into the left side of the goal off of a cross from Marc Greenblatt.

In net for Providence was redshirt sophomore Ben Seguljic (Rye Brook, N.Y.) registered two saves, while Northeastern goalkeeper Jonathan Thuresson made five saves.

The Friars will kick-off the conference match ups with an away game at Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 in Washington, D.C.
