Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies enter Saturday's matchup with a 0-2-2 record, including losses at California (0-3) and Stanford (0-1) and ties against Fairfield (0-0) and Temple (1-1). In the four games they have played this season, Frantzdy Pierrot has scored the only goal that Northeastern has registered.
Last Time Out
The Friars head into this weekend with a 3-2-1 record after playing a pair of home games against two Ivy league teams.
Providence versus Brown: On Friday, Sept. 11, the Friars played their in-state rival Brown at the Ray Treacy Track, falling 2-1 in overtime. In the 56th minute of the game, junior Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany) passed the ball into the center of the box to find junior Mac Steeves (Needham, Mass.). Steeves slammed the ball directly into the center of the goal to tie the game, 1-1. At the end of regulation, the game was tied 1-1. In the 97th minute of play, the Bears' Jack Hagstrom managed to score the game-winning goal for Brown.
Providence versus Columbia: On Sunday, Sept. 13, Providence fell in double overtime, 2-1, to Columbia at home. Steeves registered the Friars' lone goal in the second half to equalize the game. At 61:53, the ball was fed up field to Steeves who then fired a shot at goal, only to be saved by the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper couldn't get a firm grip on the ball, leaving Steeves to fire another rocket at goal for the equalizer. At the end of 90 minutes, the game remained tied 1-1. With just under a minute into the second overtime, Columbia's Andrew Tinari registered the game-winner.
Mac Attack
Steeves was all about the double goals during the first weekend of action. Steeves registered two goals in each of Providence's home games, including the 2-1 overtime win against Bryant (Aug. 28) and the 2-0 shutout of Monmouth (Aug. 30). Steeves continued his scoring ways in home games on Sept. 11 versus Brown and Sept. 13 versus Columbia. He registered a goal in each of those games to total six goals on the season and now averages 1.5 goals per every home game.
National Ranks
After registering his sixth goal of the season on Sept. 13 versus Columbia, Steeves now ranks third in the nation for total number of goals scored. He also ranks sixth for number of goals scored per game (1.00), and seventh for total points (12) and game-winning goals (2).
Steeves Earns Conference And National Honors After First Weekend Of Action
For his performances against Bryant (Aug. 28) and Monmouth (Aug. 30), Steeves collected both conference and national weekly honors. On Aug. 31, the BIG EAST Conference named him as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while College Soccer News named Steeves National Player of the Week.
In The Polls
The Providence College men's soccer team has been featured in multiple national polls this season. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its 2015 national preseason rankings on Aug. 3, ranking the Friars seventh in the nation after receiving a total of 474 votes. The preseason ranking is the highest the Providence men have ever been ranked entering the season. After the first weekend of action, both Soccer America and the NSCAA released their first regular season rankings. The Friars ranked 5th/8th (Soccer America/NSCAA) in those polls (Sept. 1), followed by a No. 4/18 (Soccer America/NSCAA) ranking on Sept. 8.

It was announced on Aug. 25 that men's soccer head coach Craig Stewart named red-shirt senior Jeff Kilday (Marshfield, Mass.), senior Manny Andrade (Faro, Cape Verde), and junior Julian Gressel as the captains for the 2015 season.
Gressel and Steeves Named To Preseason All-BIG EAST Team
The BIG EAST Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll and Preseason All-BIG EAST Team were released on Aug. 18. In addition to Providence being selected to finish third out of the 10 teams in the league, juniors Mac Steeves (Needham, Mass.) and Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany) were two of 12 men's soccer players in the BIG EAST to be named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The honor marked Gressel's second consecutive Preseason All-BIG EAST Team honor and Steeves' first.
Steeves Named To U.S. Under-23 Men's Soccer National Team College Identification Training Camp
It was announced on July 28 that Providence College junior Mac Steeves was named to the U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team College Identification Training Camp. The camp took place from August 5-8 at the U.S. National Training Center in Carson, Calif. and served as an opportunity for head coach Andi Herzog and his staff to scout a new group of collegiate players as the team continues preparations ahead of qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

A total of 10 players have joined the Friars for the 2015 season. The group of incoming players include Alex Vigliotti (Branford, Conn.), Guyllian Kabala (Manchester, N.H.), Alexander DoRego (Riverside, R.I.), Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal), Kyle Hartigan (Butler, N.J.), William Risigo (Kennebunkport, Maine), Taylor Demick (Freehold, N.J.), John Hamilton (East Hampstead, N.H.), Steve Kilday (Marshfield, Mass.), and Brendan Constantine (Glastonbury, Conn.).
The 2014 Friar Campaign
Last season, the Friars had their most successful campaign in Providence College soccer history. In addition to capturing their first ever BIG EAST Championship title, they also advanced to the NCAA College Cup semifinal for the first time in history. Along the road, six members of the team collected All-BIG EAST team honors, five were named to All-Regional teams and Phil Towler earned his first All-America accolade. At the BIG EAST Tournament, the Friars swept the MVP offensive and defensive awards, as well as naming four players to the All-Tournament team. Additionally, Mac Steeves was selected as the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the NCAA College Cup Tournament, as well as being named to the All-Tournament Team. With the honor, Steeves became the first player in the 31 seasons that a Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the College Cup has been selected (including each of the past 18 season) to earn the honor while playing for a team that did not advance to the Cup final. The 2014 team topped off the year with a 16-5-2 overall record, capturing the most wins a Providence team has had in Providence men's soccer history.
