PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's soccer seniors Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) and Markus Naglestad (Kristiansand, Norway) were selected in the 2015 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Tuesday, January 20. Broome was drafted fourth in the third round (46th overall) by the San Jose Earthquakes, while Naglestad was selected second in the fourth round (64th overall) by the New York City Football Club.
In 2014, Broome started all 23 games he played, registering 75 saves and a 1.10 goals-against average. He also registered eight shutouts. Broome also has an impressive record in post-season games with a 7-3-2 record in 12 career playoff starts (BIG EAST and NCAA) as well as a total of 42 saves. During the 2014 season, Broome was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 27 and named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team (Nov. 16) and Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week (Dec. 9).
During the 2014 season, Naglestad got out to a record breaking start. In a 5-1 victory over Rhode Island on Aug. 30, he scored four goals, three of which came within two minute of each other (75:11, 76:07 and 77:11) breaking the NCAA Division I men's soccer record for the fastest three consecutive goals by the same player. For his efforts, he was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 1).
Naglestad finished second on the team for goals (10) and points (22) this past season. For his accomplishments, he was also named College Sports Madness BIG EAST Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Oct. 21 and to the College Sports Madness All-BIG EAST First Team (Nov. 10), the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team (Nov. 16) and the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Offensive Player (Nov. 16).
Broome, a co-captain, and Naglestad helped the team to its most successful season in program history. Providence won its first ever BIG EAST Conference title after a 2-1 win against Xavier on Nov. 16 and advanced to the NCAA College Cup for the first time in program history. With a 16-5-2 record, the 2014 team posted the highest single season win total in the history of Providence College men's soccer.
