NEW YORK, N.Y. -
It was announced on Monday, Oct. 27 that three members of the Providence College men's soccer team earned BIG EAST Weekly honors. Sophomore Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and red-shirt senior Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. Senior Phil Towler (Cumbria, England) also was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Gressel earned his honor after scoring a goal in each of Providence's road games last week. Gressel scored the only Friar goal in the 1-1 tie against then 15th-ranked Marquette and the third goal in Providence's 3-0 shutout at Seton Hall. The honor marked Gressel's second career BIG EAST Weekly honor.
Broome earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for his performances last week. Broome registered a total of six saves for the week, three in each road game. Providence's 3-0 shutout of Seton Hall marked Broome's 12th career shutout and fifth on the season. The honor marked Broome's first career BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honor. He is the first Friar to earn the honor since Jhojan Obando '11 did so on Sept. 5, 2011.
The Friars return to action for their final conference home game on Oct. 29 when they host DePaul. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 7:00 p.m. Providence will recognize the 2015 graduating class as part of senior day.
