CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Iona (8-1) and Towson (8-1) on Saturday, March 17 at the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
In the first game versus Iona, the Gaels jumped out to a 5-0 lead, before the Friars cut the lead to 5-1 in the sixth inning on an RBI single by freshman Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.). Iona added three runs in the seventh inning to seal the 8-1 win. Senior Michelle Huber(Dana Point, Calif.) led the Friars with two hits.
In the second game, Towson took a 1-0 lead after a half inning, but the Friars evened the score in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by junior Jessie Bryant(Marlborough, Mass.). The Tigers regained the lead (3-1) with two runs in the second inning and added five more runs in the fourth inning en route to the 8-1 victory. Bryant had two hits to lead PC.
The Friars are back in action on Sunday, March 18 when they play Kent State in the final game of the USF Under Armour Invitational.
