The Providence College men's soccer team is ranked No. 29 in the College Soccer News top-30 national poll which was released on September 19. Connecticut is ranked No. 1, while, Maryland, Louisville, North Carolina and Creighton are second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Friars posted a 1-1 record last week as they defeated Holy Cross, 2-0, on September 14. Junior Keith Jecewiz (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored a career-high two goals to lead the Friars. Red-shirt freshman Matt Pesci (Towaco, N.J.) assisted on the first goal, while junior Marc Cintron (Piscataway, N.J.) assisted on the second. Senior goalkeeper Jhojan Obando (Kissimmee, Fla.) made two saves to earn his fourth consecutive shutout and increase his shutout streak to 429:01. On September 17, PC was defeated by No. 5 Creighton, 3-0, in Omaha, Neb., as Obando's shutout streak ended at 432:36.
Providence (5-2) will play its BIG EAST opener on Saturday, September 24, at 1:00 p.m. with a home match versus Cincinnati.
