PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College men's soccer team is ranked 20th in the Goal.com Top-25 Preseason Poll released last week. Providence is one of five BIG EAST Conference teams in the poll.
Defending national champion, Akron is ranked No. 1, while UCLA, North Carolina, Louisville and SMU are second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Friars enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in program history in 2010. Providence finished with a 13-6-3 overall record, one win shy of tying a school record for most victories. The Friars also advanced to the BIG EAST Championship final where they tied No. 1 Louisville, 1-1, in double overtime, but fell in a penalty kick shootout. Providence then earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament and hosted its first ever NCAA Championship Tournament match. The Friars defeated Saint Peter's, 6-2, on November 18 to advance to the second round for the second time ever. On their way to the NCAAs, the Friars had a 10-game unbeaten streak (8-0-2), including seven consecutive wins.
