The Providence College field hockey program is highlighting each of its current student-athletes in a segment entitled "Meet The Friars". Each student athlete answers a series of questions, allowing followers of the program to gain a closer perspective of the team and the student-athletes whom comprise the roster.
In our ninth edition of Meet The Friars, we get to hear from Caitlin Malone. Caitlin is a freshman defender from Ossining, New York. She walked on to the team in the fall and through hard work, earned a roster spot as part of the program.
Now let's meet Caitlin Malone!
1. Why did you decide to come to PC?
I decided to come to PC for several reasons. First, when I took a tour in the spring of my senior year of high school, I absolutely fell in love with the campus, even though it rained the whole time. Most campuses are attractive when it is sunny, but PC had charm even in a torrential downpour. Second, I really liked the size of the school. Students and teachers seemed friendly and helpful. Third, two of my cousins went to PC and loved it. I heard so many great things about the PC experience from my cousins, friends and several alumni. Finally, PC had a Division I field hockey team and I hoped to try out as a walk-on. I believed that I could get a excellent liberal arts education and also play a Division I college sport. I am so happy I chose to come here.
2. What place in the world would you most like to visit? Why?
Though there are many places in the world I would love to visit, however, I definitely want to go to Greece. I would really like to learn more about the Greek culture and see the beautiful sights. In high school, I had the opportunity to visit Italy. Much of our modern culture and institutions can be traced back to ancient Greece and Rome. My older brother has been studying at the University of Bologna, in Bologna, Italy, this past year and has travelled extensively throughout Europe. He and I talk all the time about his travels and adventures.
3. What is your favorite season? Why?
My favorite season is summer. One of my favorite holidays is the Fourth of July, and I love celebrating it with my family & friends. I also love being outside, swimming, and going to the beach.
4. Which of your mom's home cooked meals best describes your personality?
My mom's home cooked meal that best describes my personality is turkey and mashed potatoes, because I am simple, classic, and down-to-earth.
