Men's Soccer Climbs In College Soccer News National Poll

The Providence College men's soccer team climbed two spots to No. 27 in the College Soccer News top-30 national poll which was released on October 3. Connecticut remained at No. 1, while, Maryland, North Carolina, Creighton and Akron are second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively. It marks the fifth consecutive week that Providence has been ranked.

The Friars played one match last week and earned a 1-1 double overtime draw against No. 18 USF on Saturday, October 1 in Tampa, Fla. Sophomore Greg Davis (Jamaica, N.Y.) gave the Friars a 1-0 first half lead as he scored his second goal of the season. Freshman Marcos Ugarte (Providence, R.I.) and junior Marc Cintron (Piscataway, N.J.) assisted on the goal. The Bulls tied the match in the second half on a penalty-kick goal. Senior goalkeeper Jhojan Obando (Kissimmee, Fla.) stopped three shots for the Friars who finished with a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.

The Friars are back in action on Tuesday, October 4 when they travel to Boston, Mass. for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match against Boston University.
