NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Providence softball team swept a doubleheader at Yale, 6-2 and 9-1, Wednesday afternoon in New Haven, Conn.
Providence (10-16) took the first game, 6-2, as it scored five runs in the first inning. In the five-run first inning, the Friars combined for four hits, including a two-run single by senior catcher Teresa Bertels (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.). The Friars then scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 5-0. Junior Ava Pandiani (Shrewsbury, Conn.), Kelly and sophomore Megan McCann (Hopkinton, Mass.) each scored for PC in the fourth. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 5-1 in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Holly Gutterud. PC added one run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by senior Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) and sealed the victory with three more runs in the sixth inning.
