PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by USF, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game BIG EAST Conference series played at PC's Raymond Field.

USF (20-20, 5-4 BIG EAST) scored with two outs in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Alison Savarese hit an RBI double as the Bulls jumped out ahead. Providence (14-22, 4-7 BIG EAST) tied the game in the third inning when junior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to score senior Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.), who reached base on an infield hit.

The Bulls took the lead for good in the fifth inning as they scored twice. JoJo Medina grounded out to drive in the first run of the inning, while Stormi Grzybek hit a sacrifice fly to score the second run and give USF a 3-1 edge. The Friars tried to rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Revens and sophomore Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) each hit a single, but USF's Lindsey Richardson thwarted the comeback bid as she retired the final batter and help the Bulls take two out of three in the series. Richardson pitched all seven innings and struck out five batters. PC freshman Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) also pitched a complete game and struck out five batters.

Revens finished with three hits for the Friars, while Huber had two. Savarese had three hits and one RBI for the Bulls.

The Friars are back in action on Tuesday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. when they host Bryant at Raymond Field.
