Men's Soccer Hosts West Virginia On Senior Night

The Providence College men's soccer team will seek its fourth consecutive victory when it hosts West Virginia on Saturday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m. in the regular-season finale at PC's Glay Field. It will mark the final regular season home game for seniors Michael Daly (Hicksville, N.Y.), Andrew Sousa (Fall River, Mass.), Toussaint McClure (Atlanta, Ga.), Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.), Bryan Minogue (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Michael Pereira (London, Ontario).
Providence (8-5-2, 3-4-1 BIG EAST) is unbeaten in its last four matches (3-0-1) including three consecutive victories. The Friars clinched a BIG EAST playoff spot for the sixth consecutive season when they defeated Seton Hall, 2-1, on Wednesday, October 27 in South Orange, N.J. Sousa scored a career-high two goals, while sophomore Marc Cintron (Piscataway, N.Y.) had two assists to lead the Friars. In goal, red-shirt junior Jhojan Obando (Kissimmee, Fla.) made six saves.
Marcin leads the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points, while sophomore Wilder Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Cintron are tied for second with eight points. Arboleda has three goals and two assists, while Cintron has one goal and a team-high six assists for the Friars. Obando has played in all 15 matches and has four shutouts.
West Virginia (9-5-2, 5-3 BIG EAST) stands in fourth place of the BIG EAST Blue Division with 15 points, five points ahead of fifth-place Providence. The Mountaineers have clinched a BIG EAST Championship First Round home game and still have a chance to claim a first round bye if they finish second. Most recently, the Mountaineers defeated Marquette, 3-0, Wednesday night in Morgantown, W.Va. WVU scored all three goals in the second half, including two by Franck Tayou.
Abel Sebele leads the team in scoring with four goals and seven assists for 15 points, while Tayou (six goals, one assist) and Moeryhan Doue (five goals, three assists) are tied for second with 13 points each. Zach Johnson has started all 16 matches in goal for West Virginia and has five shutouts.
In 14 all-time meetings between Providence and West Virginia, the Mountaineers lead, 8-6, but Providence has claimed the last two meetings. Last season, the Friars posted a 1-0 overtime victory marking their first triumph in Morgantown since 2003. In 2008, Providence also defeated West Virgina, 1-0, at Glay Field.
