Providence, R.I. - PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (2-2, 0-0 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team looks for its third-consecutive win Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts Northeastern at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
The Friars are coming off a 4-0 win against Dartmouth. Four different Friars scored goals including Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) who led the team with three points on one goal and one assist. Senior Kerianne Murphy (Walpole, Mass.) scored the first goal of her career in the matchup. Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) was able score her fifth goal of the season, and leads the Friars in scoring this season with 10 points. She currently ranks ninth all-time on Providence's scoring list with 90 points. Senior Goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) earned her first shutout of the season with three save marking the 18th shutout of her career. Chamberlain has a 1.67 goals against average and a .808 save percentage for the season. This will be the fifth-consecutive season that Providence and Northeastern square off. Last Year, Providence defeated Northeastern, 2-1, in Boston, Mass. Under the direction of Head Coach Diane Madl, the Friars have posted a 2-2 record against Northeastern. In the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Coache's Poll, the Friars finished just outside of the top-20, with 63 points in the poll. Northeastern also missed out on a Top-20 ranking, with 38 points.
NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY (3-2, 0-0 Colonial Athletic Association): The Northeastern field hockey team enters Wednesday's matchup with a 3-2 record. The Huskies started the season with back-to-back losses and have won three-straight games prior to their matchup with Providence. The Huskies defeated Boston University on September 13, by a score of 4-3. Junior Pam Aldridge scored the game winning goal in the final minutes of regulation to give the Huskies their third consecutive victory. Carolyn Malloy and Nicola Graham each had a goal and an assist to help the Huskies in the win. Crystal Poland leads the Huskies in scoring this season with eight points on three goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Lizzie Priest has a 1.70 goals against average and a .700 save percentage this season.
