FRESNO, Calif. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by BYU, 5-2, in the Bayer CropScience Classic Friday afternoon in Fresno, Calif.

The Cougars (12-10) scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Friars (2-7) tied the score at 2-2 in the fourth inning. Senior Mary Rose Sheehy (Woodbridge, Conn.) scored PC's first run after she tripled and junior Chris Becker (Atlanta, Ga.) drove her in with a single. Becker later came around to score on a double by junior Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.).

However, BYU took the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning when Angeline Quiocho walked with the based loaded. The Cougars added two more runs in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Paige Affleck pitched a complete game for BYU as she allowed two runs on four hits. PC's Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, N.Y.) allowed just two earned runs.
