PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated, 8-0, by No. 23/21 DePaul on Monday, March 30 at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I. The two teams were scheduled to play a double header but the second game was cancelled because of rain with the Blue Demons leading, 4-1, in the second inning.

Becca Heteniak pitched a complete game shutout allowing just three hits and striking out 12 batters to improve to 9-4. DePaul scored the only runs it would need in the third inning when Amber Patton smacked a line drive home run to left center to give her team a 2-0 lead. It marked her second home run of the season. The Friars tried to rally in the fifth inning as they put together back-to-back hits with one out, but were unable to score. Junior Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) and sophomore Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) accounted for PC's hits in the fifth.

The Blue Demons scored three runs in the sixth inning on five hits to make the score, 5-0. Heteniak then hit a solo home run as part of a three-run seventh inning to seal the win.

The Friars are back in action on Wednesday, April 1 when they host Boston University in a non-conference double header beginning at 3:00 p.m.
