Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - The Providence College softball team defeated Boston University, 6-4, in the first game of a double header at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I. The second game cancelled because of rain.
With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, senior Gina Rossi (Bakersfield, Calif.) hit a two-run home run to put the Friars up for good (6-4). It marked Rossi's second home run of the game and her team-leading fifth of the season. It also marked her second multiple-home run game of the season. Rossi's first home run of the afternoon came in the third inning, a solo shot to tie the game at 3-3.
Freshman Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) earned the win as she pitched three-plus innings of relief and allowed one run on three hits and struck out two batters. Grosso improved to 2-2 on the season.
Junior Christy Becker (Atlanta, Ga.) also hit a home run for the Friars, her second of the season, to tie the game at 4-4. Rachel Moeller led the Terriers with two hits and one RBI, while Erica Casacci also added two hits.
The Friars are back in action on Friday, April 3 when they travel to Georgetown for a double header beginning at 2:00 p.m.
