RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Providence College softball team jumped out to a 3-0 lead but UC Riverside rallied for a 5-3 win in eight innings on Friday, March 13 in the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, Calif.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) hit a triple to score classmate Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.), who singled and stole second base. The Friars added two more runs in the second inning, capped off by freshman Michelle Huber's (Dana Point, Calif.) infield single that drove in the second run of the inning and increased PC's lead to 3-0.
The Highlanders scored once in the third inning and twice on the seventh inning to tie the game (3-3). Jessica Vasser's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning sent the game into extra innings. In the eighth inning, Brooke Hebenton hit a two-run home run to win the game for UC Riverside.
Providence will play UC Riverside and Longwood on Saturday, March 14 in the final day on of the Amy S. Harrison Classic.
