Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Providence College softball team was defeated, 3-1, by Nicholls State in 10 innings Friday in the season opener in Baton Rouge, La.
After going scoreless the first eight innings each team traded ninth inning runs as the game went into the 10th. Nicholls State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth when Kayla Watterson drove in the game's first run with a double. The Friars responded in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) hit a double to plate the tying run. However, the Colonels scored twice in the 10th en route to the win.
Lacey Gross pitched a complete game shutout for the Colonels and allowed just four hits. Junior Danielle Bertolette (Temecula, Calif.) pitched nine innings and allowed just five hits and two earned runs.
The Friars are back in action on Saturday, February 14 when they play Louisiana-Lafayette and McNeese State.
