Men's Soccer To Host San Diego

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- After earning its first road of the season against Northeastern on Friday, the Providence College men's soccer team (2-1) returns to its home pitch to face the University of San Diego (2-1) on Sunday, September 3 at 11:30 a.m. It will mark the first ever meeting between the two teams.

In the victory against Northeastern, junior Matt O'Donnell (Armonk, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the match in the 30th minute. The goal also marked the first tally of O'Donnell's career. In goal, senior Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) made six saves to earn his first shutout of the season. Juniors Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) and Alex Bury (Shrewsbury, Mass.) lead the team in scoring with one goal and one assist each.

The Toreros will complete their four-game east coast trip against the Friars on Sunday. USD defeated Rutgers (2-0 on Aug. 25) and Albany (4-0 on Aug. 27) before suffering a 2-1 loss at Brown on Friday, September 1. In the match against Brown, Michael Caso scored for the Toreros to tie the match, but the Bears scored the match winner in the 67th minute. Caso and Ciaran O'Brien lead the team in scoring with one goal and one assist each.
