Six Field Hockey Players Earn National Academic Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Six members of the Providence College field hockey team were named to the 2006 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. Freshman Ali Kornfeld (Kingston, Pa.), senior Kati Lary (Canaan, N.H.), junior Noel Mahlstadt (Farmingville, N.Y.), junior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.), junior Colleen Walsh (South Easton, Mass.) and junior Jessica Weinstein (Bridgeton, N.J.) each were recognized for their achievements in the classroom.

To be eligible for the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must have a minimum of a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average through the first semester of the 2005-06 academic year.

Kornfeld earns the honor for the first time in her career and is the only freshman on PC's roster to be named to the team in 2006. Also earning National Academic Squad honors for the first time in her career is McGow, who was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2003 and 2004.

Lary headlines the list of honorees for Providence, making her fourth-consecutive appearance on the team. Lary also is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society (Chi Alpha Sigma).

Walsh is making her third appearance on the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad and is a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star. Weinstein earns the national honor for a second time in her career and is a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
