Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team scored late in each half en route to a 2-1 victory over 14th-ranked Brown (8-2-1) Tuesday afternoon at Glay Field. For the Friars (10-3), who ended the Bears' six-match unbeaten streak, it marked their first win over Brown since 1993. In addition, it marks the first time since 1984 that PC has reached the 10-win plateau.

With 5:20 left in the second half and the score tied at 1-1, sophomore Timothy Ritter (Weston, Mass.) scored his third goal of the season to lead the Friars to the win as PC guaranteed its first back-to-back winning seasons since 1986-87. Junior Hadrien Toure (Lyon, France) played a through ball to Ritter who fired a low right-footed shot from 15 yards out that eluded Brown goalkeeper Jarrett Leech.

The Bears tied the match early in the second half when senior Ian Premo drove a cross from the right flank to sophomore Dylan Sheehan who headed the ball into the top left corner of the net at 55:18. The Friars opened the scoring with 59 seconds left in the first half as Benjamin Wexler (Minnetonka, Minn.) tallied his first collegiate goal. After a scramble in front of the net, Wexler, who was falling, fired a right-footed shot from five yards out and into the right corner of the net. Toure, who also was credited with the assist on the first goal, finished with two assists.

The Friars outshot the Bears, 14-12, as Leech made a six saves. Senior Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) stopped three shots for the Friars who defeated a ranked team for the first time since a 1-0 triumph over No. 13 Hofstra in the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

Providence is back in action on Saturday, October 14 with a BIG EAST match at Notre Dame.
