PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's soccer junior goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) was named ECAC Division I Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday, September 20. For Konopka, it was the second honor he earned this week as he was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on September 19.

Konopka was recognized by the ECAC after leading the Friars to two BIG EAST 1-1 double overtime ties at Louisville and at Cincinnati on September 16 and 18.

On September 16, Konopka registered eight saves in 110 minutes of action versus Louisville. Four of his eight saves were made in the final 10-minute overtime to help the Friars earn the tie. On September 18, he made eight stops in another double-overtime tie at Cincinnati.

For the season, Konopka has started all six games for the Friars and has led the team to a 2-0-4 record. He has been instrumental in helping the team to its first undefeated start through six games since 1972. In 620 minutes of action, Konopka has registered 36 saves and allowed just four goals. He has posted a 0.58 goals against average and a .900 save percentage. Konopka ranks first among all BIG EAST goalkeepers in saves per game (6.00) and third in goals against average (0.58).

A 2003 graduate of Toms River East High School, Konopka is the son of Walt and Debbie Konopka.

Providence, the only undefeated team in the BIG EAST, returns to action on Friday, September 23 versus Syracuse at PC's Glay Field at 4:00 p.m.
