PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team is ranked 27th in the nation according to the College Soccer News Poll released on Monday, October 3. The Friars, who have posted a 4-0-5 mark overall this season, are just one of five squads ranked in the top-30 with an undefeated record.
Last week, the Friars earned a 3-2 win over 25th-ranked Georgetown to improve to 2-0-3 in BIG EAST action and move into a first place tie with the Hoyas in the BIG EAST Blue Division. In PC's one other game this season against a ranked squad, the Friars played to a 0-0 tie with sixth-ranked St. John's on September 25.
Head Coach Chaka Daley's squad will return to action on Wednesday, October 5 at 12th-ranked Connecticut. Offensively, the Friars are led by senior Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine). Lynch, who received BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors with two goals and one assist in the victory over Georgetown, leads the Friars in goals (seven) and scoring (16 points). Lynch ranks third all-time in goals (25) at Providence and sixth in points (55). Goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) has backstopped the Friar defense, posting a 0.79 goals against average and an .860 save percentage. He also has recorded three shutouts.
