Villanova (2-0-1, 0-0-0) - Villanova enters Saturday's game with a 2-0-1 mark overall and a 0-0 record in BIG EAST play. In their last game, the Wildcats defeated La Salle, 2-1, on September 8 ... Villanova's other win this season was a 3-1 victory over Pennsylvania on September 5 at Villanova, Pa. ...The Wildcats have posted an 8-5-2 mark all-time versus the Friars ... In the last meeting between the two teams, Villanova defeated the Friars, 1-0, last season at Villanova ... Freshman midfielder Dan DeMasters (Littiz, Pa.) leads the team in points (three) with one goal and one assist... Junior Craig Bald (Edgewater, Md.) is the team's top goalkeeper. Bald has posted a 1-0-1 mark with a 0.45 goals against average and an .875 save percentage.
Providence (0-2-0, 0-0-0) - The Friars enter their home opener on Saturday looking to earn their first win of the season ... The Friars opened the season at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill. PC was defeated in its first game, 1-0, by Bradley on September 3 and lost its second game of the tournament to Drake, 3-0, on September 4 ... Providence entered the season looking to earn its third consecutive berth to the BIG EAST Tournament. Last season, the Friars advanced to BIG EAST Semfinals where they were defeated by eventual BIG EAST Champs Notre Dame, 1-0 ... Providence should be led on offense this season by junior Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) ... Lynch has led Friars in goals each of the last two seasons. Last year, Lynch recorded a career best 17 points on eight goals and one assist ... Senior Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) each have played one game in goal this season. In 2003, Newman posted a 1.32 goals against average and a .809 save percentage while Konopka registered a 1.63 goals against average and a .722 save percentage.
