ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Providence College softball team split a pair pf games at the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday, March 13 in Rock Hill, S.C. The Friars defeated Alabama State, 8-0, in the first game as junior Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) pitched her second career no hitter.
Bartholomew pitched a complete game and struck out 14 batters as she earned the third no-hitter in Providence College history. At the plate, the Friar erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning en route to the win. Junior Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) batted two-for-three with a double and an RBI. Senior Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) hit a three-run home run and sophomore Elena Romero (Chula Vista, Calif.) hit a solo home run.
In the second game, the Friars were defeated, 9-0, by the Marshall Thundering Herd. Marshall's Sarah Chamberlain pitched all seven innings and allowed just one hit. Amanda Williams led the Thundering Herd with three hits and three RBI. PC junior Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had the team's lone hit.
