Rutgers University Scarlet Knights (0-1-1) - Rutgers, back from the Adidas Indiana Tournament in Bloomington, opens its Big East schedule with the Friars on Saturday, September 7th at 1:00 p.m. The 2001 Scarlet Knights finished with a 6-3-1 conference record, which was good for a fourth-place finish in the BIG EAST. The pre-season #7 Scarlet Knights have already tasted defeat at the hands of Butler University, 3-0, and have tied top-ranked Indiana, 0-0. This season's team is led by seniors Guy Abrahamson (Livingston, N.J.) and Sherif El Bialy (Cairo, Egypt). Both players were named to the 2002 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Bialy is the team's leading returing scorer. Last season, he registered nine goals. Along with its fourth-place finish in the Big East, Rutgers posted a 15-7-3 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. The Scarlet Knights, led by Head Coach Bob Reasso, were picked to finish fourth in this season's BIG EAST Preseason Poll.

Providence College Friars (1-1-0) - The Friars open this year's home schedule on September 7th after two-games at the Central Connecticut State Tournament in New Britain, Conn. Providence finished the tournament with one win and one defeat. Two of PC's three goals this season were scored by freshmen. Goal scorers Ian Wexler (Minnetonka, Minn.) and BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Week Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) are two of seven freshmen that Head Coach Chaka Daley has brought in to add to the 13 players returning from last year's team. The Friars look to take advantage of the depth and talent that is returing from last year's team. Senior captain Jonathan Alva-Cavero (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) will lead the Friar midfield this season. Last year marked his first season at Providence after transferring from the University of South Florida. He started 16 games and was a team leader for the Friars.
