SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sophomore forward Kirk Johnson (Chester Springs, Pa.) scored three goals to lead Syracuse to a 5-0 win against Providence College, 5-0, in men's BIG EAST soccer action on Saturday, September 22 in Syracuse, N.Y.
Junior midfielder Darren Ingles (Overijse, Belgium) scored Syracuse's first goal and what proved to be the game winner at the 19:23 mark. Johnson scored three consecutive goals for the Orangemen at 23:20, 47:23 and 74:55 before junior midfielder Ryan Hall (Great Falls, Va.) netted Syracuse's final goal with 20 seconds remaining in the game.
Syracuse freshman goalkeeper Rich Scheer (Livingston, N.J.) made three saves in the win. Friar senior goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) recorded six stops for PC.
With the victory, Syracuse raised its record to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in league action.
Providence College returns to action on Wednesday, September 26 at New Hampshire at 3:30 p.m.
