NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Providence College softball team swept its doubleheader at Yale University on Saturday, March 24th, winning 8-0 in five innings in game one, and winning 7-3, in the second game.
The Friars used a five-for-six day at the plate from senior catcher and co-captain Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.), who has led the Friars to an 11-5 start to the 2001 season. Jacklets was two-for-two at the plate in the first game, with a double, two runs scored and two RBI for the Friars.
PC scored two runs in the top of the first inning to stake freshman pitcher Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.). Van Dusen pitched a complete-game, five-inning shutout as she won for the second time this season while allowing just three hits and struck out four. She lowered her team-leading ERA to 0.26.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Jacklets was three-for-four at the plate with two doubles and her team-leading fifth home run of the season. She scored two runs and also drove in two runs in the victory. Van Dusen did her damage at the plate in the second game, as she was three-for-three at the plate as the designated hitter with two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore hurler Melissa Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) went the distance as she recorded her fifth victory of the season.
