Three Soccer Players Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College sophomore back John Costigan of Dublin, Ireland and junior midfielder Michael Eisenhut of Hanover, Mass. were named All-BIG EAST Soccer Second Team and freshman back Kempes Corbally of Dublin, Ireland earned All-BIG EAST Soccer Rookie Team accolades on November 12.

Costigan, who was twice named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week this season, led the Friar defense to five shutouts in 1998. He also was the team's top offensive back, recording three points (one goal, one assist) in 17 games.

Eisenhut had his most productive season as a Friar this year. He finished second on the team in scoring with 13 points and led the squad in assists with seven. A former all-scholastic athlete at Hanover High School, Eisenhut has recorded 10 goals and 22 assists in three seasons at Providence.

Corbally was one of PC's top defenders all season. He started all 19 of the team's games and recorded four shots. It marks the first time a Friar has earned BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honors since 1996.

Providence, which posted a 9-9-1 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in BIG EAST play, was eliminated from the BIG EAST Playoffs by Georgetown in a 1-0 double overtime loss on November 8. This season, Providence earned its first berth in the BIG EAST Playoffs since 1987. Also, the Friars posted their first winning record ever in BIG EAST conference play (6-4-1) and recorded the most wins (nine) overall by the team since 1987.
