Men's Soccer Defeated by UNH, 2-1

DURHAM, N.H. -- - The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by the University of New Hampshire, 2-1, in the Nike/Pepsi Soccer Classic at Durham, N.H. on Sunday, September 6.

PC freshman Russell Corner took advantage of mistake by a Wildcat defender who misjudged the play and blasted in the Friars' first goal of the season at the 56:28 mark. However, the Wildcats quickly evened the game as Michael Keevan headed in a goal to tie the game at 58:06. Adam Purcell tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal for UNH when he dribbled up the middle and booted a shot into the far side of the net at 67:07.

New Hampshire goalkeeper Mitch Osman and Friar netminder Dan Pires each registered three saves.

New Hampshire improved its overall record to 1-0-1, while Providence dropped to 0-3 overall.

Providence College returns to action on Friday, September 11 against Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn. at 7:30 p.m.
