PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on December 14 that Providence College field hockey players junior Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, N.H.) and sophomore Kate Willett (Biddeford, Maine) were named to the 1999 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Academic Squad. To be named to the team, a student-athlete must have a minimum grade point average of 3.30, be a starter or a key reserve and be in at least her sophomore season of competition.
Tattersall, a biology major, has recorded a 3.89 grade point average at Providence. This season, she played in five games for the Friars and was the team's back up netminder. She recorded a 2-0 record, a 1.05 goals against average and a .893 save percentage. Prior to attending Providence, Tattersall was a member of the National Honor Society and an All-State Athlete at Profile High School. Heather is the daughter of Betty and Bradford Tattersall.
Willett, a marketing major, has posted a 3.82 grade point average. At the conclusion of the 1999 season, she earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. In 1999, the sophomore back started all 19 games and notched one assist and made one defensive save. Last season, she was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team. Katie, a graduate of Biddeford High School, is the daughter of Kathleen and Michael Willett.
Providence finished the season with a 7-12 mark and a 1-4 record in BIG EAST play.
