Sixth-Seeded Providence Falls To No. 4-Seed Creighton In BIG EAST Semifinals

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The sixth-seeded Providence College softball team was defeated by no. 4-seed Creighton, 5-4, in a Semifinal Game in BIG EAST Softball Championship on Saturday, May 10 at the Villanova Softball Complex in Villanova, Pa. The Friars capped off their historic postseason run, finishing with a 3-2 mark in the 2025 BIG EAST Championship.  

GAME RECAP 

- The Bluejays struck first with a sac fly and RBI double in the top of the first inning (2-0).  

- The Friars tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning as Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) took advantage of a passed ball.  

- Creighton added two runs in the top of the second off two RBI singles to take a 4-2 lead. 

- Providence countered with two runs in the bottom of the second courtesy of a sac bunt by Gabriella Sebastian (Ramsey, N.J.) and a RBI single from Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) (4-4). 

- The Bluejay's Sydney Potter hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to regain the lead for the Jays (5-4).  

- Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.), Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) each spent time in the circle for PC. Grifone, the pitcher of record, struck out two batters and conceded four hits and one earned run.
