Julia Renny hit a home run for the Friars on Friday night.

OMAHA, Neb.- The Providence College softball team was defeated, 5-2, by the Creighton Bluejays (32-19, 15-7 BIG EAST) on Friday, May 3 in Omaha, Neb. The Friars fell to 21-22-1 overall and 10-12 in BIG EAST play. Sophomore Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) spearheaded the Friar offense with a home run.

GAME NOTES

-Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) opened the scoring with RBI single that eventually scored Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) in the top of the first.

-The Bluejays took a 5-1 lead following three runs in the bottom of the first and two runs in the sixth.

-Renny homered in the seventh inning to close the gap to 5-2. This marked her third home run of the season and fifth of her career.  

-Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.), Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) and Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) each spent time in the circle for Providence. The three pitchers combined for four strikeouts while conceding 11 hits and five earned runs.

The Friars will play the second game of the three-game series set at Creighton tomorrow, May 4 in Omaha, Neb. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. For fans unable to attend, the match will be available for stream on FloSports.
