PROVIDENCE SET TO HOST NO. 6 DENVER… The Providence College men's lacrosse team is set to host No. 6 Denver for Senior Day on Saturday, April 20. Opening faceoff is set for 12:03 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.

SERIES BREAKDOWN… Denver leads the all-time series, 15-0.

MOST RECENT MEETING... The teams last met during the 2023 campaign in Denver, Colo. The Friars were defeated by the Pioneers, 13-6. Ryan Bell paced the Friars' offense with three points on two goals and an assist.

LAST TIME OUT... The Friars defeated Marquette, 13-10, in Milwaukee, Wis. Providence improved to 2-1 in the BIG EAST and 6-6 overall. Ryan Bell led the team with eight points on three goals and five assists. This marked his second straight game with seven or more points. James Corasaniti made 11 saves and held the Golden Eagles to 10 goals.

FRIARS RECEIVING VOTES IN USILA COACHES POLL... The Providence College men's lacrosse team is currently receiving votes in the USILA Coaches Poll.

BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP... The Friars can clinch a BIG EAST Championship birth with a win over Denver.

RYAN BELL ADDED TO TEWAARATON WATCH LIST... Providence College junior Ryan Bell has been added to the 2024 Tewaaraton Watch List. The Tewaaraton Foundation announced its second round of additions on March 27. Bell is the third Providence College player to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, joining former Friar goaltenders Toby Burgdorf '21 and Tate Boyce '19. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation. Bell, who was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, currently leads the Friars in points (56) and assists (39).

RYAN BELL SETS FRIARS' ALL-TIME ASSIST RECORD… Ryan Bell, a junior, moved into fourth place on the Friars' all-time scoring list with 160 career points (47 goals and 113 assists). Bell became the Friars' all-time assist leader during the Villanova game on April 6. He dished a career-high seven assists against the Wildcats. He passed Matt Pymm '99 who closed his career with 102 assists. Bell's 40 assists during the 2023 season were two shy of the single-season record, held by Kyle Ojakian '02, who handed out 42 assists in 2002.

Through 12 games in 2024, Bell leads the Friars with 56 points on 17 goals and 39 assists.

BELL CLOSING IN ON SETTING SINGLE SEASON RECORDS... Ryan Bell is closing in on the Friars' single-season assist record and the single-season points record. He currently owns 39 assists, which is three shy of the single season record set by Kyle Ojakian in 2002, with 42 assists. The junior's 56 points is seven points shy of the single-season record also set by Ojakian (63).

FIVE PLAYERS LEAD OFFENSIVE BOOST... Ryan Bell, Richie Joseph, Jack Horrigan, Chris Cusolito and Michael Chabra have led the Friars' offense through the first 12 games of the season. Bell leads Providence in points (56) and assists (39). He currently leads the BIG EAST in points per game (4.67) and assists per game (3.25). Joseph leads the team in goals (33) and has added seven assists. He leads the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.75).

Horrigan ranks second on the team in goals (20) and fourth in points (25). He recorded a career-high six goals against Merrimack on March 5. Cusolito has recorded 28 points on 16 goals and 12 assists. He has recorded five hattricks this season. Chabra has recorded 16 goals and three assists. He scored a season high four goals against Brown on Feb. 24 and in the BIG EAST opener against No. 8 Georgetown (3/30).

DEFENSIVE LEADERS... Sophomore Ian Olenik has anchored the defensive line with help from Grant Latimer and Gregg Dennison. Through 12 games, Olenik leads the team in caused turnovers (21), has picked up 29 groundballs and scored one goal. Latimer has caused 10 turnovers, picked up 31 ground balls and scored his first career goal against Merrimack. Dennison leads the defense in groundballs, with 32 and has caused 10 turnovers.

Goalie James Corasaniti has earned a .465 save percentage and is averaging 11.67 saves a game.

FRIARS ON A NATIONAL LEVEL... Ryan Bell ranks fifth among Division I players in assists per game, averaging 3.25 and ranks 17th in the nation in points per game, averaging 4.67. Joseph ranks 26th among Division I players in goals per game (2.75) and ranks second in the nation in shot percentage (.500). Patrick McAleavey ranks sixth in Division I in man-up goals, with 6.

RYAN BELL NAMED BIG EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR A SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK... Ryan Bell and James Corasaniti each earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Monday, April 15, following the teams conference victory over Marquette. Bell, who earned offensive player of the week, paced the Friars' offense with eight points on three goals and five assists. Bell has scored five-or-more points in seven games this season, including four games with seven or more. Additionally, he has had consecutive games of at least seven points. Corasaniti, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, made 11 saves on 21 shots, holding Marquette to 10 goals in the Friars victory.

A TRIO OF FRIARS EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY AWARDS... Ryan Bell, James Corasaniti and Richie Joseph earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Monday, April 8, following the teams BIG EAST victory over #RV Villanova. Bell was named Offensive Player of the Week, Corasaniti was named Defensive Player of the Week and Joseph was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Bell paced the Friars' offense with a career-high seven points. He also became Providence College's all-time assists leader during the game, with 108 career assists, passing Matt Pymm '99, who closed his career with 102 assists. Corasaniti made a season-high 17 saves and recorded a .586 save percentage in the victory over Villanova. He also scored his first career goal. Joseph recorded four goals vs. the Wildcats, which marked his sixth hattrick of the season.

RYAN BELL, RHETT CHAMBERS AND TOM FEGLEY EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL... Ryan Bell, Rhett Chambers and Tom Fegley earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Monday, March 11, following the team's wins over Merrimack and Stony Brook. Bell was named Offensive Player of the Week, Chambers earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and Fegley was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Bell combined for 13 points during the Friars' two games, including scoring the game-tying goal with nine seconds left in the game to force overtime against Stony Brook. Chambers combined for three goals and an assist over the two games and Fegley went 22-35 over the two games at the faceoff.

MICHAEL CHABRA NAMED TO THE BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL...Michael Chabra earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Monday, Feb. 26. Chabra led the Friars' offense in their overtime win against Brown. He scored four goals, including two that came in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. He recorded his first hat trick of the season and 12th of his career. Chabra's four goals moved him into 17th place on the Friars all-time goals list, with 70. He currently ranks third on the team in goals (six) and points (eight). Chabra entered the 2024 campaign as a Preseason All-America Honorable mention selection. He also was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team and NEILA All-New England First Team.

RICHIE JOSEPH NAMED TO THE BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL... Richie Joseph earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Monday, Feb. 12. Joseph led the Friars' offense against Bryant, scoring a career high six points on four goals and two assists. He recorded his first hat trick of the season and second of his career.

QUINN MCCONNAUGHEY, RYAN BELL AND GREGG DENNISON EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Quinn McConnaughey, Ryan Bell and Greg Dennison each earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Feb. 5, following the team's season-opening victory over Holy Cross. McConnaughey was named Specialist of the Week, while Bell and Dennison were named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

FRIARS DEFEAT THE WILDCATS ON THE ROAD... The Friars defeated #RV Villanova, 15-12, on April 6 in Villanova, Pa. Ryan Bell had a career-high seven assists and became the programs all-time assists leader. Richie Joseph had a team-high four goals, which marked his sixth hattrick of the season. James Corasaniti had a season-high 17 saves and scored his first career goal.

FRIARS DEFEATED IN BIG EAST OPENER... The Friars were defeated by No. 8 Georgetown, 15-10, on Saturday March 30 in Providence, R.I. The Friars got off to a 5-2 lead to start the game, before Georgetown went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter. Michael Chabra and Richie Joseph each scored four goals for the Friars.

FRIARS DEFEATED IN OVERTIME... The Friars were defeated by Saint Joseph's, 13-12, in overtime on Saturday, March 23 in Providence, R.I. The Hawks had a late-game comeback scoring two goals in the final minute of the game to force overtime. The Hawks won the game in overtime with 28 seconds remaining on the clock. The Friars' offense was led by Chris Cusolito and Richie Joseph, who each tallied five points. James Corasaniti made a season-high 14 saves.

FRIARS DOWNED BY NO. 3 DUKE... The Friars were defeated by No. 3 Duke, 21-6, on Wednesday, March 13 in Durham, N.C. Richie Joseph scored a team-best two goals. Chris Simonton and Ty Thureson each scored their first goals of the season.

FRIARS WIN IN OVERTIME.. The Friars defeated Stony Brook, 13-12, in overtime on Saturday, March 9 in Stony Brook, N.Y. Ryan Bell led Providence's offense with five points on two goals and three assists. Bell scored with nine seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Chris Cusolito was responsible for the game winning goal and recorded his third hattrick of the season. Providence has won two-straight games vs. Stony Brook since opening the all-time series with eight-consecutive losses to the Seawolves.

DOWN GO THE WARRIORS... The Friars defeated Merrimack, 17-10, on Tuesday, March 5 at home. The Friars dominated the second half of the game, outscoring the Warriors, 10-4. Ryan Bell paced the Friars' offense with eight points on six assists and two goals. His six assists marked a career high and moved him into third place on the Friars all-time career assist list, with 94. Jack Horrigan recorded a career-high six goals. Grant Latimer and Tom Fegley each recorded their first career goals.

FRIARS IN FAIRFIELD... The Friars were defeated by Fairfield, 14-12, on Saturday March 2 in Fairfield, Conn. Richie Joseph paced the way for the Friars' offense with four goals and one assist. It marked his third game of the season with four goals. Ryan Bell registered a team-high four assists.

FRIARS DEFEAT BROWN IN OVERTIME THRILLER... The Friars defeated Brown, 12-11, in overtime on Saturday, Feb. 24 in Providence, R.I. Michael Chabra recorded a team-high four goals, including two that came in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. Jack Horrigan scored the game winning goal 43 seconds into overtime off a feed from Ryan Bell. It marked just the third victory for PC over Brown during the all-time series (3-26).

FRIARS DEFEATED BY HARVARD... The Friars dropped to 1-2 on the season after a loss to Harvard (23-7) on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Cambridge, Mass. Richie Joseph had a team-best two goals .

OCEAN STATE CUP GAME... Providence fell to Bryant, 15-13, in an Ocean State Cup battle on Feb. 10 in Providence, R.I. Richie Joseph paced the way with a career high four goals and six points. It marked Joseph's first hat trick of the season and the second of his career. Ryan Bell posted his second hat trick of the season with three goals and added two assists.

Providence outscored Bryant 7-4 in the fourth quarter to mount a late comeback effort. Chris Cusolito and Joseph accounted for four of the seven goals in the fourth quarter, each scoring two.

PROVIDENCE POWERS PAST HOLY CROSS... Providence got out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter and controlled the rest of the game en route to a 12-6 victory in the season opener vs. Holy Cross on Feb. 4 in Worcester, Mass. Ryan Bell led the way with five goals and two assists, followed by Jack Horrigan who recorded four goals and an assist. Goalkeeper James Corasaniti recorded 13 saves on 32 shots faced. Quinn McConnaughey went 15 for 21 from the X and picked up seven groundballs.

MICHAEL CHABRA NAMED USA LACROSSE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION... Senior Michael Chabra was recognized by the USA Lacrosse Association as a 2024 Division I Preseason All-America Honorable Mention selection. Chabra has put together an exceptional career with the Friars, tallying 64 goals and four assists. He finished the 2023 season ranked third on the team in scoring with 39 points on 37 goals and two assists. His 37 goals led the team and marked a career high. At the conclusion of the 2023 campaign, he was named First-Team All-BIG EAST, First-Team All-New England and USA Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American. He also was recognized as a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection.

THREE FRIARS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Goalkeeper James Corasaniti as well as midfielders Michael Chabra and James Bell were named to the 2024 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. This marked the most Preseason All-BIG EAST Team selections for the program in a single season, since the formation of the league in 2010. Corasaniti was one of eight unanimous selections. All three players were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign.

JAMES CORASANITI NAMED BIG EAST GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR...James Corasaniti became the third goaltender in program history to earn BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, joining former Friars Peter Badgley (2015) and two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and All-America selection Tate Boyce (2017, 2019).

MEET THE STAFF... The Providence College men's lacrosse program enters its second season under the leadership of Head Coach Bobby Benson. In his first season with the program, he helped the Friars claim a spot in the BIG EAST Lacrosse Championship. Prior to Providence Benson spent the two seasons at Maryland as the offensive coordinator during the Terps' run to the NCAA title in 2022. Maryland registered a 33-1 record during Benson's tenure, earned two Big Ten Championships and made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship game. Casey Brodersen, who spent 12 seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Bryant University, was hired by Bobby Benson to serve as Associate Head Coach at Providence in 2023. He helped the Bulldogs to six Northeast Conference titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances. Carroll Kennedy joined the Friars as an Assistant Coach in 2023. Kennedy worked alongside Benson at Maryland during the 2022 season and was previously named USILA Assistant Coach of the Year while at Limestone University in 2015. Shawn Ewert joined the staff for the 2024 season as an Assistant Coach. Ewert spent the last two seasons at Florida Southern, where he served as assistant coach and offensive coordinator. During his tenure, he helped guide Florida Southern to a 25-11 record.

KEY RETURNERS… The Friars are bringing back their top-five point scorers from last season. Michael Chabra returns for his senior season after finishing first on the team in goals (37). Chabra was named All-BIG EAST First-Team, Division I NEILA All-New England First Team and closed the season by earning USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention. Ryan Bell will look to build off his success from 2023 after finishing the season ranked fourth in the nation in assists per game (2.79). He finished first on the team in scoring with 61 points on 21 goals and a team-best 40 assists. He was recognized as an All-BIG EAST First Team Selection, BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and Division I NEILA All-New England Second Team. Jack Horrigan will return for his junior year after finishing his 2023 season second on the team in scoring with 41 points on 32 goals and nine assists.

Goalkeeper James Corasaniti returned for his final season after winning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023. He finished the regular season ranked ninth in nation in saves per game, averaging 13.71.

Graduate student Grant Latimer will anchor the Providence defense. Latimer started all 15 games for the Friars last season and recorded 17 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls.

WELCOME TO FRIARTOWN… The Friars welcomed 15 freshmen to the men's lacrosse program in the fall of 2023. Newcomers include Drew Clift (Memphis, Tenn.), Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.), Carter Smith (Palm Beach, Fla.), Charlie Smith (Matthews, N.C.), Leo Sequenzia (Westport, Conn.), Spencer Liston (Wilton, Conn.), Parker Kennedy (Port Coquitlam, B.C.), Luca Meola (Ossining, N.Y.), Kevin Devine (Haverstraw, N.Y.), Scott Westrick (Corona Del Mar, Calif.), Matthew Trimmer (Greenwich, Conn.), Michael Spaziano (Long Valley, N.J.), Colin Gols (Huntington, N.Y.), Hunter Bisbee (Greensboro, N.C.) and Joseph Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.).

Additionally, two transfers joined the Friars roster in the fall of 2023. Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass.), a graduate transfer from Bentley University, and Ryan Reilly (Hingham, Mass.) a graduate from Salve Regina.

FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN BIG EAST POLL... Providence was picked to finish fifth in the 2024 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll (9 points). Georgetown was picked to win the league, having collected five first-place votes and 25 points overall. Denver (21 points) was second and Marquette (16 points) was selected third. Rounding out the conference standings was Villanova (14 points) in fourth and St. John's (five points) in sixth.

SCOUTING N0. 6 DENVER… The Pioneers are currently ranked sixth in the nation in the USILA Coaches Poll. They have an overall record of 9-2 and are 3-0 in BIG EAST play.

PLAYERS TO WATCH… Michael Lampert and JJ Sillstrop lead Denver's offense with 33 points apiece. Jimmy Freehill leads the defense in caused turnovers, with 15 and has picked up 18 ground balls. Alec Stathakis ranks ninth in the nation in faceoff percentage, with a .601 win percentage. Malcolm Kleban has started all 11 games in net for the Pioneers, compiling a save percentage of .507 on 377 shots faced.

WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars will travel to Queens, N.Y. to face Saint John's in their final regular season game of the year on Friday, April 26. Faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
