Matthew Minicus Joins Men's Lacrosse Staff As An Assistant Coach

Minicus graduated from Loyola in May, where he finished his career with 197 points on 117 goals and 80 assists.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's lacrosse Head Coach Bobby Benson announced today [Aug. 18] that Matthew Minicus has joined his staff as an assistant coach. Minicus recently graduated from Loyola, where he played four seasons for the Greyhounds and finished his career with 197 points on 117 goals and 80 assists. 
 
"We are thrilled to welcome Matt to the Friar Lacrosse family," Benson said. "His experience at Loyola, along with the opportunity to learn under an incredible coaching staff, will provide a tremendous foundation as he begins his coaching career. We look forward to having him bring that experience and knowledge to our program and, most importantly, to positively impact our student-athletes here in Friartown."
 
Minicus played four seasons at Loyola (2022-26) and was a two-time All-Patriot League Second Team selection. He finished his career at Loyola ranked fifth all-time in points (197), ninth in goals (117) and seventh in assists (80). He scored 50-or-more points in back-to-back seasons, including a career-high 53 points in his final campaign with the Greyhounds in 2026.
 
Minicus helped guide Loyola to a 10-6 overall record last season, including a 6-2 mark in conference play to earn a share of the Patriot League regular-season title. The Greyhounds also was ranked in the USILA Coaches' Poll, Kane/Inside Lacrosse media poll and USA Lacrosse Magazine rankings for the first time since 2024.
 
"First and foremost, I want to thank Coach Benson and his staff, along with the players, for welcoming me into Friartown," Minicus said. "I'm incredibly excited for this opportunity and can't wait to meet everyone, get to work and become a part of this program. It's a great group of coaches and student-athletes and I am grateful to be part of a program with such a strong tradition. I'm looking forward to the year ahead and can't wait to get started."
 
Minicus, a Darien, Conn. native, attended Darien High School, where he played lacrosse and football. He was a two-time All-America, All-State and All-Fairfield County honoree in 2021 and 2022. Minicus played club lacrosse for Eclipse.
