Rachael Petrarca scored a run and went 2-for-2 at the plate.

STORRS, Conn.- The Providence College softball team was defeated by the UConn Huskies (19-15, 7-2 BIG EAST), 4-2, on Monday, April 1 in Storrs, Conn. The Friars fell to 13-15 overall and 4-8 in BIG EAST play. Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored a run for the Friars.

GAME NOTES

-The Huskies found an early 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first inning and two in the third.

-Providence answered with two runs in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-2. Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) reached on an error to get Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) to the plate and Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) notched an RBI with a walk to account for the Friars' runs.

-Petrarca led the way offensively with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.

-Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) split equal time on the circle as they each pitched 3.0 innings. Grifone faced 15 batters, striking out five while allowing five hits and four earned runs. Twomey faced 11 batters as she recorded four strikeouts while conceding just one hit.

ON DECK

The Friars will travel to South Orange, N.J. to play the reigning BIG EAST Champions, Seton Hall (16-13, 7-5 BIG EAST) in a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 5.
