PROVIDENCE TRAVELS TO FAIRFIELD… The Providence College men's lacrosse team will travel to Fairfield, Conn. to face Fairfield on Saturday, March 2. Opening faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

SERIES BREAKDOWN…  Since 1980 the Friars and Stags have met 22 times. Fairfield leads the all-time series, 14-8. 

MOST RECENT MEETING... The teams last met during the 2023 campaign In Providence, R.I. The Friars defeated Fairfield, 17-10. Michael Chabra recorded a team-high four goals followed by Richie Joseph (three).

LAST TIME OUT... The Friars defeated Brown, 12-11, in overtime on Saturday, Feb. 24 in Providence, R.I. Michael Chabra recorded a team-high four goals, including two that came in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. Jack Horrigan scored the game winning goal 43 seconds into overtime off a feed from Ryan Bell. It marked just the third victory for PC over Brown during the all-time series (3-26).

FRIARS DEFEATED BY HARVARD... The Friars dropped to 1-2 on the season after a loss to Harvard (23-7) on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Cambridge,  Mass. Richie Joseph had a team-best two goals .

OCEAN STATE CUP GAME VS. BRYANT... Providence fell to Bryant, 15-13, in an Ocean State Cup battle on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Providence, R.I.  Richie Joseph paced the way with a career high four goals and six points. It marked Joseph's first hat trick of the season and the second of his career. Ryan Bell posted his second hat trick of the season with three goals and added two assists. 

Providence outscored Bryant 7-4 in the fourth quarter to mount a late comeback effort. Chris Cusolito and Joseph accounted for four of the seven goals in the fourth quarter, each scoring two.

PROVIDENCE POWERS PAST HOLY CROSS... Providence got out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter and controlled the rest of the game en route to a 12-6 victory in the season opener vs. Holy Cross on Feb. 4 in Worcester, Mass.

Ryan Bell led the way with five goals and two assists, followed by Jack Horrigan who recorded four goals and an assist.

Goalkeeper James Corasaniti recorded 13 saves on 32 shots faced.

Quinn McConnaughey went 15 for 21 from the X and picked up seven groundballs. 

MICHAEL CHABRA NAMED TO THE BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL...Michael Chabra earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Monday, Feb. 26. Chabra led the Friars' offense in their overtime win against Brown. He scored four goals, including two that came in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. He recorded his first hat trick of the season and 12th of his career. Chabra's four goals moved him into 17th place on the Friars all-time goals list, with 70.  He currently ranks third on the team in goals (six) and points (eight). Chabra entered the 2024 campaign as a Preseason All-America Honorable mention selection. He also was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team and NEILA All-New England First Team.

RICHIE JOSEPH NAMED TO THE BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL... Richie Joseph earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Monday, Feb. 12. Joseph led the Friars' offense against Bryant, scoring a career high six points on four goals and two assists. He recorded his first hat trick of the season and second of his career. 

QUINN MCCONNAUGHEY, RYAN BELL AND GREGG DENNISON EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Quinn McConnaughey, Ryan Bell and Greg Dennison each earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Feb. 5, following the team's season-opening victory over Holy Cross. McConnaughey was named Specialist of the Week, while Bell and Dennison were named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

RYAN BELL MAKES PROGRAM HISTORY… Ryan Bell, a junior, moved into 15th place on the Friars' all-time scoring list with 124 career points on 40 goals and 84 assists. His 84 assists puts him at fifth all-time in career assists at Providence.  Ken Leahy '99 is the Friars' all-time leading scorer with 188 points on 112 goals and 76 assists.

Additionally, Bell's 40 assists during the 2023 season were two shy of the single-season record, held by Kyle Ojakian '02, who handed out 42 assists in 2002.

Through four games in 2024, Bell leads the Friars with 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists.

FIVE PLAYERS LEAD OFFENSIVE BOOST... Ryan Bell, Richie Joseph, Jack Horrigan, Michael Chabra and Chris Cusolito have led the Friars offense through the first four games of the season. Bell leads Providence in points (20) and assists (10). Joseph leads the team in goals, with 11 and has added three assists. The sophomore recorded a career high in goals (4) and points (6) against Bryant on Feb. 10. 

Horrigan, Chabra and Cusolito each have eight points through the first three games. Horrigan has registered six goals and two assists. He recorded his season high in goals (4) and points (5) against Holy Cross on Feb. 4. Chabra has recorded six goals and two assists. He recorded a season high four goals against Brown on Feb. 24. Cusolito 's seven points come off four goals and three assists. The senior recorded his second career hat trick against Bryant on Feb. 10.

DEFENSIVE LEADERS... Junior Gregg Dennison has anchored the defensive line with help from Grant Latimer. Through the first four games, Dennison leads the team in groundballs, with 12 and has added three caused turnovers. Latimer has picked up 10 ground balls and caused four turnovers. 

Goalie James Corasaniti has earned a .456 save percentage and is averaging 10.25 saves a game. 

MICHAEL CHABRA NAMED USA LACROSSE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION... Senior Michael Chabra was recognized by the USA Lacrosse Association as a 2024 Division I Preseason All-America Honorable Mention selection. Chabra has put together an exceptional career with the Friars, tallying 64 goals and four assists. He finished the 2023 season ranked third on the team in scoring with 39 points on 37 goals and two assists. His 37 goals led the team and marked a career high. At the conclusion of the 2023 campaign, he was named First-Team All-BIG EAST, First-Team All-New England and USA Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American. He also was recognized as a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection. 

THREE FRIARS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Goalkeeper James Corasaniti as well as midfielders Michael Chabra and James Bell were named to the 2024 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. This marked the most Preseason All-BIG EAST Team selections for the program in a single season, since the formation of the league in 2010. Corasaniti was one of eight unanimous selections. All three players were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign.

JAMES CORASANITI NAMED BIG EAST GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR...James Corasaniti became the third goaltender in program history to earn BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, joining former Friars Peter Badgley (2015) and two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and All-America selection Tate Boyce (2017, 2019).  

MEET THE STAFF...  The Providence College men's lacrosse program enters its second season under the leadership of Head Coach Bobby Benson. In his first season with the program, he helped the Friars claim a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship. Prior to Providence Benson had spent the previous two seasons at Maryland as the offensive coordinator during the Terps' run to the NCAA title in 2022. Maryland registered a 33-1 record during Benson's two seasons in College Park, earned two Big Ten Championships and made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship game. Casey Brodersen, who spent 12 seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Bryant University, was hired by Bobby Benson to serve as Associate Head Coach at Providence in 2023. He helped the Bulldogs to six Northeast Conference titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances. Carroll Kennedy joined the Friars as an Assistant Coach in 2023. Kennedy worked alongside Benson at Maryland during the 2022 season and was previously named USILA Assistant Coach of the Year while at Limestone University in 2015. Shawn Ewert joined the staff for the 2024 season as an Assistant Coach. Ewert spent the last two seasons at Florida Southern, where he served as assistant coach and offensive coordinator. During his tenure, he helped guide Florida Southern to a 25-11 record.

KEY RETURNERS… The Friars are bringing back their top-five point scorers from last season. Michael Chabra returns for his senior season after finishing first on the team in goals (37). Chabra was named All-BIG EAST First-Team, Division I NEILA All-New England First Team and closed the season by earning USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention. Ryan Bell will look to build off his success from 2023 after finishing the season ranked fourth  in the nation in assists per game (2.79). He finished first on the team in scoring with 61 points on 21 goals and a team-best 40 assists. He was recognized as an All-BIG EAST First Team Selection, BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and Division I NEILA All-New England Second Team. Jack Horrigan will return for his junior year after finishing his 2023 season second on the team in scoring with 41 points on 32 goals and nine assists. 

Goalkeeper James Corasaniti returned for his final season after winning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023. He finished the regular season ranked ninth in nation in saves per game, averaging 13.71. 

Graduate student Grant Latimer will anchor the Providence defense. Latimer started all 15 games for the Friars last season and recorded 17 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls. 

WELCOME TO FRIARTOWN… The Friars welcomed 15 freshmen to the men's lacrosse program in the fall of 2023. Newcomers include Drew Clift (Memphis, Tenn.), Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.), Carter Smith (Palm Beach, Fla.), Charlie Smith (Matthews, N.C.), Leo Sequenzia (Westport, Conn.), Spencer Liston (Wilton, Conn.), Parker Kennedy (Port Coquitlam, B.C.), Luca Meola (Ossining, N.Y.), Kevin Devine (Haverstraw, N.Y.), Scott Westrick (Corona Del Mar, Calif.), Matthew Trimmer (Greenwich, Conn.), Michael Spaziano (Long Valley, N.J.), Colin Gols (Huntington, N.Y.), Hunter Bisbee (Greensboro, N.C.) and Joseph Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.).

Additionally, two transfers joined the Friars roster in the fall of 2023. Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass.), a graduate transfer from Bentley University, and Ryan Reilly (Hingham, Mass.) a graduate from Salve Regina. 

FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN BIG EAST POLL... Providence was picked to finish fifth in the 2024 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll (9 points). Georgetown was picked to win the league, having collected five first-place votes and 25 points overall. Denver (21 points) was second and Marquette (16 points) was selected third. Rounding out the conference standings was Villanova (14 points) in fourth and St. John's (five points) in sixth.

SCOUTING FAIRFIELD… The Stags have started their season 1-3. In their most recent game they defeated Wagner, 14-9, on Saturday, Feb. 24.

PLAYERS TO WATCH… Bryce Ford leads Fairfield in goals (10) and points (12). He is followed by Will Consoli and Jake Gilbert, who each have 10 points.

Julian Radossich leads the defense with eight caused turnovers and 12 groundballs though the first four games.

Goalie Will Snyder has started all four games and has compiled a .402 save percentage and has allowed 12.25 goals per game.

WHAT'S NEXT… The Friars will host Merrimack on Tuesday, March 5. The game will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Faceoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
