Women’s Hockey Skates To A 2-2 Tie With No.11 UConn; Wins Shootout 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against UConn on Friday, Feb. 2 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. Providence won the shootout, 2-0, for the extra point in Hockey East standings. The team is 5-0-2 in the last seven games to extend its unbeaten streak. Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the night with 34 saves, marking a career high.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Both teams skated through first period scoreless.
-Three minutes into the second period, the Friars took a 1-0 lead after Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontairo) scored a goal off her skate. Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Alberta) and Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas) were each credited with an assist.
-At the 15:34 mark of the third period, Martinson and Weiss assisted Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) to the Friars' second goal.
-UConn's Megan Woodworth scored, 2-1, at 17:11 with help from Riley Grimley and Camryn Wong.
-With two minutes left in regulation, Ava Rinker tied the score to send the game into overtime. Ainsley Svetek and Brooke Campbell assisted the play.
-Both teams skated through overtime scoreless.
-Providence won the shootout, 2-0, for the extra point in Hockey East standings.
-Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the night with 34 saves, marking a career high.
-Providence has posted a 6-1-3 record in its last ten Hockey East games to improve to 10-8-3 in league action.
-The last time the Friars had a seven game unbeaten streak was during the 2020-21 season.
