PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Providence will face the UConn Huskies this weekend in a home-and-home series. The Friars will host the Huskies on Friday, Feb. 2 at 6:00 p.m. before traveling to Storrs, Conn. for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 11-14-2 and 10-8-2 in Hockey East play. Last weekend, the Friars tied Boston College, 1-1, on Friday, Jan. 26. The Eagles went on to win the shootout 1-0 for the extra Hockey East point. Providence then claimed a 3-1 win over the Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the weekend with 55 saves.
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) led the team with two goals, both scored on Saturday.
Providence has posted a 6-1-2 record in its last nine Hockey East games to improve to 10-8-2 in league action.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Friars, who received 74 points, were picked to finish behind Northeastern (88) and Vermont (75). The Huskies, who won the 2023 Hockey East Tournament, received eight first place votes.
Rounding out the poll was UConn (65), Boston University (59), Boston College (58), Maine (38), New Hampshire (35), Merrimack (28) and Holy Cross (20).
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes nine new players (two transfers and six freshmen) to the roster for the 2023-24 season.
Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a graduate student from University of Wisconsin and
Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) a junior from Syracuse University. The six freshmen are

Captains Named

Hockey East Award Winners
Audrey Knapp was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 23 for scoring three goals in two games.
Knapp earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Nov. 27 for scoring the lone goal and game-winner against Brown University.
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) earned Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 11 for recording four points on Dec. 8 against New Hampshire and scoring the Friars' lone goal against Boston University on Dec. 9.
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) earned Hockey East Player of the Week on. Jan. 15 for recording two goals on Saturday, Jan. 13. Becker's second goal on Saturday sent Providence into overtime against Vermont, where they went on to win 4-3.
Scouting the Huskies
UConn enters the weekend matchup ranked No.11 in the USCHO Poll with a record of 17-6-3 (14-3-2 HEAW). The Huskies' last matchup was a weekend matchup against Vermont. On Friday, Jan. 16, the Huskies shutout the Catamounts 3-0 before having a scoreless tie Saturday, Jan. 27. The Huskies earned the extra Hockey East point from winning the shootout, 2-1.
Who to Watch
Jada Habisch leads UConn with 22 points consisting of 14 goals and eight assists. Coryn Tormala follows with four goals and 15 assists for 19 points.
Goaltenders Tia Chan and Megan Warrener have split time between the pipes. Chan has started in 15 games this season recording 389 saves for a .942 save percentage and a 1.59 GAA. In 13 games, Warrener has recorded 211 saves this season for a .959 save percentage and a 0.83 GAA.
All-Time Series with the Huskies
Providence currently leads the all-time series against UConn 49-25-11. The last time the two teams faced off was Oct. 2023 when Providence lost 6-1.
