PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On October 20, 1984, the Providence College men's cross-country team defeated eight other schools to capture the team's fifth BIG EAST title. The Friars were led by Richard O'Flynn, who won his first BIG EAST Cross Country Championship. The Championship was held at Franklin Park in Boston.
After O'Flynn, the other Friars who scored were Andy Ronan (third), Michael Capper (eighth), Jim Zimmerly (ninth) and Eddie Hanratty (13th).
Over the last forty-five years, the Friar men's squad has captured 15 BIG EAST cross country titles, including its fifth in six years in 1984. The program also has produced 11 BIG EAST individual men's cross-country champions.
The 1984 team Friars went on to place sixth at the NCAA Championships.
