ASHLAND, Neb.– The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, October 31 at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Neb. The Friar women's team scored 61 points on the 6K course and placed third of 11 teams.  It marked the sixth straight time and the 14th time in the last 15 years the Friar women finished in the top three at the BIG EAST Championship.  The team was led by sophomore Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Northern Ireland), who finished sixth (20:03.2) of 96 runners.  On the men's side, the Friars placed fourth of nine teams after scoring 110 points on the 8K course.  Sophomore Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) paced the Friars, finishing 18th (24:02.30) of 81 runners.

"I'm really happy with our women's team," Head Coach Ray Treacy said. "They put it together today and ran an aggressive race.  It was by far their best race of the season and they are headed in the right direction.  They need to stay focused and they have a chance to get a bid for the NCAAs.  The men finished where I expected today.  A few of the runners were a little bit under the weather but hopefully in two weeks we will be healthy for the NCAA Regionals."
