CHICAGO, Ill. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational, hosted by Loyola University Chicago, on Friday, Oct. 3. The seventh-ranked Friar women scored 224 points and placed 10th overall. PC sophomore Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) led the Friar women placing 26th in the women's 6k in a time of 20:19.21. The Friar men finished ninth (202 points) in the 8k race and were led by freshman
Oliver Neate (Sydney, Australia), who placed 32nd (24:14.94) in his first cross country race as a Friar.

After Schimdt, senior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) finished second for the Friar women placing 37th overall in a time of 20:28.95. Sophomore
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland) finished 54th overall in her season debut in 20:48.46. Freshman
Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand) placed 65th and finished the six kilometers in 21:05.51. Senior
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) rounded out the scoring for PC, placing 67th overall in a time of (21:05.88) in her first appearance of the season.
In addition to Neate, sophomore
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland), placed 34th in a time of 24:16.90. Also scoring for the Friars were junior
Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand)
and sophomore
Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand). Johnston was 41st (24:23:40) and Prescott was 47th (24:32:58). Sophomore
Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.) was the fifth scorer for the Friars, finishing 48th in a time of 24:34.02.
The Friars will return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 at the New England Championship in Hopkinton, N.H.
