PROVIDENCE, R.I- The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed today (Oct. 24) at the Rothenberg Run at Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. The Friar women's squad had five runners finish in the top 10 as they scored 23 points and defeated four other teams. The men's team had three runners place in the top 10 as they scored 70 points to finish third of five teams.

The women's individual champion was Friar freshman
Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland). Galvin was running unattached and completed the 3K course in a time of 10:11.34. The top finisher on the team side for the Friars was freshman
Ciara Evans (Newton, Mass.), who was second (10:15.07). Also scoring for PC was freshman
Lucia West (Raleigh, N.C.), freshman
Emilia O'Leary (East Aurora, N.Y.), junior
Shea Podbelski (Norton, Mass.) and senior
Emily DiSarno (Westfield, N.J.). West was third (10:19.08), O'Leary placed fourth (10:20.06), Podbelski finished ninth (10:46.64) and DiSarno rounded out the scoring in 10
th (10:48.13).
On the men's side, senior
Grady Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) was the team's top finisher, placing fourth (15:37.43). Freshman
Jack Dowd (Pearl River, N.Y.) (eighth, 15:40.83) and junior
Nick Cassarino (Durham, N.C.) (ninth, 15:48.9) both finished in the top 10. Also scoring for the Friars were sophomores
Ryan Welch (Wyckoff, N.J.) and
Adam Wedlake (Westford, Mass.). Welch placed 24
th (16:13.86) and Wedlake finished 25
th (16:19.05).
The Friar men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 31 at the BIG EAST Championship in Ashland, Neb.
