PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team announced its 2024 schedule today (Jan. 5). The Friars will play 52 games during the 2024 season, including three tournaments, 24 BIG EAST Conference games and 19 home games.
The Friars finished last season with a 15-32 overall record with a 6-18 conference mark.
Providence will begin its season at Southeastern Louisiana University in Youngsville, La. from Feb. 9-11 for the 2024 Marti Gras Mambo. The Friars will match-up against Southeastern Louisiana, University of Louisiana Monroe, and Southern University before closing out the tournament against the Eastern Illinois Panthers.
The Friars will then travel to the University of North Carolina- Wilmington to play five games from Feb. 23-25 in the UNCW Tournament. They will play UMBC, Merrimack, George Mason, Kent State and UNCW.
Providence softball will wrap up tournament play in Towson, Md. at the 2024 DeMarini Tiger Clash hosted by Towson University. Providence will play five games from Mar. 1-3. The Friars are set to play Towson once and UMass-Lowell and Howard University twice.
In their local non-conference contests, the Friars will play Yale (March 12), Bryant in a doubleheader (March 13), Stonehill in a doubleheader (March 20), Harvard (April 9), Rhode Island (April 10), Merrimack in a doubleheader (April 17), Albany (April 18), Central Connecticut State in a doubleheader (April 23), and Brown (May 1).
Providence will welcome Villanova in the home opener (March 15-17), St. John's (March 22-24), DePaul (April 12-14) and Georgetown (April 26-28) for its home BIG EAST opponents.
The Friars will travel to Butler (March 8-12), UConn (March 28-30), Seton Hall (April 5-7) and Creighton (May 3-5) for their BIG EAST away games. UConn won the BIG EAST regular season title last season after finishing 19-5 in conference play. Seton Hall won the BIG EAST Tournament by defeating Villanova in the championship game, 6-1.
The Friars will host the BIG EAST Championship from May 8-11 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
