VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Providence College softball team was defeated by Villanova University, 10-4, on Sunday, May 7 in Villanova, Pa.
GAME NOTES
-Senior Tiana Wren (Glen Lyon, Pa.) scored on a Villanova error to give the Friars an early 1-0 in the second inning.
-The Wildcats' Ava Franz evened the score in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left center field, 1-1.
-Providence responded with three runs in the third inning to gain a 4-1 lead. Sophomore Kaelyn Loncharich (Yucaipa, Calif.) and Wren each had RBIs for the Friars.
-Villanova scored nine unanswered runs over the next four innings to secure the 10-4 win.
-Sophomore Jessica Walter (Middleton, Del.) started in the circle for the Friars pitching 3.2 innings. Freshman Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) came in for relief pitching 2.1 innings. Walters and Quirk both surrendered four earned runs and struck out one batter each.
-Sophomore Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.), sophomore Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) and Wren each had two hits for Providence.
