Providence Men’s Track Wins IC4A Championship For First Time In Program History

The men's team finished first overall out of 42 teams with 74 points.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed in the final day of the IC4A/ECAC championships on Sunday, March 5 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass. The men's team finished first overall out of 42 teams with 74 points.
 
The Friar men secured four of the top-five finishes in the 3,000-meters. Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) placed first in 7:54.51 for a personal best. Thygesen's performance earned him the most outstanding men's performance award. DJ Principe (Johnston, R.I.) and Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) followed in second (7:55.71) and third (7:57.41) place, respectively. Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) placed fifth in a time of 8:03.93. Jacob Hefele (Danbury, Conn.) finished 18thin a time of 8:18.42 for a personal best.
 
Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) placed second overall in the mile finals with a time of 4:03.89.
 
Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) finished runner-up in the 800-meters with a time of 1:51.52.
 
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) set a personal record of 2:23.15 to win the 1,000-meters.
 
On the women's side, Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) placed third in the 3,000-meters with a time of 9:25.36
 
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) who finished first in the 1,000-meters with a personal and meet record of 2:42.78. May's performance makes her second all-time in program history in the event. Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) followed in third place with a personal best of 2:46.95.
 
Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) ran a 4:52.74 in the mile finals for a seventh-place finish.
 
In the 800-meter finals, Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland.) placed ninth in a time of 2:14.44.
